20 November - The Transgender Day of Remembrance
On 20 November 2008, the 9th Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance will be marked across the world and Europe. This Day was established following a murder of Rita Hester in 1998 and serves as a reminder of existing prejudice, hatred and discrimination against transgender people.
ILGA-Europe board member is to be Co-Secretary General of ILGA
On 6 November 2008, the final day of the 24th World Conference of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA) in Vienna, the delegates elected Renato Sabbadini, a board member of ILGA-Europe, as male Co-Secretary General and Gloria Careagas as female Co-Secretary General of ILGA. ILGA-Europe is proud one of its board members will now be co-leading the organisation on a global level.
12th ILGA-Europe’s Annual Conference concluded in Vienna
A successful 12th annual conference of ILGA-Europe concluded in Vienna on 2 November. 230 participants from 40 countries took part in the conference. The theme of this year’s conference was “Think Globally, Act Locally”.

On 30 October – 2 November 2008, ILGA-Europe holds its 12th Annual Conference (30th ILGA European Annual Conference) in the Austrian capital of Vienna. The title of this conference is “ Think globally, act locally”.

This year, the EU anti-discrimination truck is calling in two Lithuanian cities, Vilnius (20 August) and Kaunas (22 August). The mayors of both cities have refused to allow the truck on their municipal territories.

Today (02.07.08) Vladimír Špidla, the EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, announced the Commission’s proposal for a single EU anti-discrimination directive which provides for protection from discrimination on grounds of age, disability, sexual orientation and religion or belief in areas other than employment.
